New anti-aging skin care line launched in Manila

Launched in Malaysia and Singapore last year, a plant-based skin care line was introduced in Manila recently with a presentation from the Denmark-based professor who is credited for discovering the anti-aging effects of its main ingredient.

Prof. Suresh Rattan says kinetin was found to prevent drying and withering of leaves.
The Kinerase skin care system, said Professor Suresh Rattan of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Aarhus University, “is the only product in the world with kinetin.”   During the media launch of the product last March 8, he explained that “Kinetin is a preventer. It delays the aging process of skin cells – but not overnight.”   As a gerontologist who specializes in biological research on old age, Dr. Rattan said he discovered that kinetin can help prevent cellular changes brought about by aging while experimenting on the substance in 1994.   Kinetin was discovered in 1955 by Professor Folke Skoog and his team of scientists from the University of Wisconsin, who found that the naturally occurring substance prevented the leaves of plants from drying out, Dr. Rattan said.   The plant-based extract is touted to be a better alternative to retinoin, the active ingredient in most anti-aging creams available in the country.   Unlike other anti-aging skin products, kinetin has less side effects such as redness, itchiness, and sensitivity to light, according Dr. Rattan and Invida, the product’s marketer in the Philippines.

“Prevention is the best way to delay the aging process,” said Professor Rattan. He added that it is best for adults between the ages of 35-45 years old to start using anti-aging products to benefit from their full effects.   Developed by Canada-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals, the Kinerase Skin Care System consists of several products including a cleanser, mist, cream, and lotion that are only available through a dermatologist’s recommendation.   However, Invida representatives declined to disclose the prices of the products, saying only that these are “premium-priced.” – Eileen Paat/YA, GMA News  All photos courtesy of Invida
