‘Smart’ toothbrush makes sure you maintain proper dental habits

Remember being nagged by your mother to brush your teeth properly after every meal? Guess who—or what—has replaced her, at least for this chore.

Meet the Kolibree smart toothbrush, which debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas over the weekend and may sell for $100-$200 once it starts selling later this year, according to tech site Mashable.

The toothbrush will record every brush stroke and send the data to an app that maps the user's brushing habits and dental health.

Mashable said the app can also indicate if a user "brushed long enough and reached important parts of the teeth and gums."

It may also "reward" improvement and has a scoring system to encourage both adults and children to improve their brushing habits.

Proper brushing technique

According to the Mayo Clinic, the correct way to brush your teeth is with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Angle the toothbrush so that the bristles are aimed at the area where the tooth meets the gum. Gently brush with short back and forth movements, making sure you cover the inner, outer and chewing surfaces of the tooth. Brush your tongue as well.
