Sitting for hours and wearing heels? Here are workouts to improve posture
Work may force you to sit for hours and wear high-heeled shoes, which can strain your back and lead to poor posture.
Bad posture affects not just your image but also your overall health. According to a report on Unang Balita, it can slow down metabolism and cut off circulation, which can lead to other health issues.
To help you stretch your back and improve your posture, fitness coach Toni Saret showed four different workouts that can all be done within four minutes in a limited space without the need for any equipment.
Good Morning - Squeeze the scapula or shoulder blade backward and bend your torso down without folding the knees, making a 90-degree angle. Go back up and repeat.
Planking - This exercise is like holding the push-up position for 20 seconds. The back should be completely straight while the elbows and fists are flat to the ground. Planking is also good for the core muscles.
Superman - Saret said that this exercise is specifically designed for the lower back. Lie face down on the ground with the arms spread out. Squeeze in the lower back by pushing your upper body and lower extremities up. Do this for 20 seconds.
Aquaman - This exercise also takes the same position as the Superman, except it's like swimming out of water. When the right hand is up, the left leg should also be up. The same goes with the left hand and right leg.
"Whatever we do to our body is totally in accord with our minds. 'Yung mental well-being natin is also connected to our physiological well-being," the fitness coach said. — Trisha Macas/BM, GMA News
