DepEd, PopCom deny viral flyer on AIDS
The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Population (PopCom) on Saturday disowned a viral flyer that discourages "sexual intercourse to (sic) homosexual."
"The Commission on Population-Region VI (POPCOM 6) strongly denies the alleged production of the Information, Education, Communication (IEC) material entitled “How to Avoid HIV/AIDS?" PopCom Region 6 said on its Facebook account.
DepEd's Regional Office 6 issued a similar statement.
The viral flyer, which bore the DepEd and PopCom logos, looked like materials for an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign.
While several groups active in the campaign to fight the stigma against both the disease and the LGBT community condemned the flyer for its message, several others pointed to the typos and grammatical inconsistencies as evidence that the materials may not be official.
