5 tips on queenly behavior from Reina Hispanoamericana Teresita Ssen "Winwyn" Marquez

While the tips Reina Hispanoamericana Winwyn Marquez shared were addressed to Filipina beauty queens about to compete, they're all rather universal and applicable to everyone.

These tips won't just make you more beautiful — these will also make the world a better place. We mean: Check out number five! Kindness baby!

1. Be yourself. As cliche it may sound, Winwyn thinks being honest with who you are is one way to stand out and win the pageant industry.

"It might sound cliche but they just really have to be themselves, they shouldn't pretend, they just have to be honest talaga kung sino sila. Sa Bolivia, nakikita nila kung nagpapanggap ka o hindi, and I think it's more appealing to show who you really are. I wish them luck and I wish them all the best, and pakita nila kung ano kaya ng pinay, yun lang yun."

2. Let bad comments motivate you. Despite having millions of fans, Winwyn also has a fair share of bashers. Instead of letting their snide remarks affect her for the bad, she uses it to motivate herself to believe in herself more and become better. She said she's is thankful to everyone including her bashers for giving her that motivation.

3. Surprise everyone in any way you can. Marquez is the first Filipina and Asian to join the Reina Hispanoamericana and it surprised everyone on how she brought home the crown on the country's first try.

She said she was one of the smallest candidates in the pageant and her Latina sisters have been calling her "baby" since they thought she was 18 years old. Everyone's jaws dropped when she performed during the talent portion of the pageant.

"I think it started when I did the talent portion, nung nag-change costume, siguro dun sila na-curious sino ba tong batang 'to cause to be honest, a lot the candidates thought I was 18 years old. They were calling me 'baby'. Ms. Australia was calling me Joey. They thought I was young, so nung sumayaw ako bigla nag-change costume ako, hinubad ko na, pinatapos nila 'yung buong prod, siguro dun sila nacurious sino ba tong girl na 'to pasabog."

4. Speak from the heart. The newly crowned queen who aced her part during the Q&A of Reina Hispanoamericana said nothing can stop you from expressing your thoughts if it comes from the heart.

"If you really know what you want to say and it comes from the heart and it's from your experience, I don't think anything can stop you" she said.

She said her answer came from experiencing this very language barrier they asked during her two-week stay in Bolivia.

5. Let kindness be your language. During her stay in Bolivia, she had a hard time communicating with her fellow pageant sisters, since she was the only one who didn't speak Spanish, but the language barrier did not stop Wyn to reach out to other beauty queens.

"Imagine having lunch with 26 Latinas, talking in Spanish and you want to socialize so sometimes you just can't butt in and speak in English. Even if you know a few sentences or words, you can't just butt in so what I do is I just sit down, 'yun 'yung mahihirap na times eh na parang naiiyak ka kasi parang na-oop ka na and you don't know what to do," she narrated.

She added, "Pero may time kasi na sabi ko kailangan ko na kapalan yung mukha ko even those who don't speak english, nagssign language ako para makareach out, so kahit mahirap kahit na-oop ako kailangan gumawa ka ng way eh, you can't just frown and sit on the side and do nothing,"

Marquez also said that most of the candidates would volunteer to help translate for her during ambush interviews in Bolivia since she said they believe she deserves the chance to be heard.

"Nicaragua was translating for me, because they told me I should be given a chance to be heard in Bolivia and they're there and willing to help me, siyempre, who would've thought na tutulungan nila ako ng ganon, kakumpetisyon mo 'yun pero tutulungan ka nila," Wyn said.

At the pageant's Q&A where she was asked: "How would you promote Hispanic Americana culture with language barriers?"

In one part of her answer she said,"I believe that kindness is a universal language. If you treat people with tolerance, patience, and love, you will understand each other."

Winwyn will have her homecoming parade in Parañaque City on November 20.

The Reina Hispanoamericana pageant will have a replay on GMA News TV on November 19 at 9 p.m.
