This principal-turned-janitress doesn't have time for a pity-party

A lot of us have an idea about Pacita “Pacing” Piano: She is the 84-year-old school principal who, after a series of unfortunate events that left her penniless, returned to the school she headed as its janitress.

Lola Pacing devoted more than 60 years of her life to her profession. After three decades as a teacher in Ligaya Elementary School in Quirino Province, and five years as its principal, the self-described strict educator decided to retire.

She used her retirement money of about P700,000 to build a house, and help relatives by lending them money. But then fire struck, burning her record of those who owed her money.

She could’ve easily wallowed in self-pity and remorse but Lola Pacing ain't got no time for that. She prodded on and continued hustling — this time as a janitress.

84-year-old Lola Pacing also takes care of her grandchildren.

“Tinanggap ko nang buo-buo kasi pag hindi, saan ako kukuha ng ibili ng bigas? Ibili ng gamot?” Lola Pacing tells “Day Off”.

It’s not a pity party as you may think; Lola Pacing doesn't have time for that. She enjoys working, even adding to her tasks the responsibility of taking care of the school’s garden. “Kahit na pinipigilan namin, magrereport pa rin yan. Talagang masipag yan,” the school’s current principal Ma’am Carol says.

So next time you're feeling tired, just remember Lola Pacing. — LA, GMA News
