Mariel Padilla's candid, no-drama thoughts on what it was like to be ‘super fat’
Mother's Day weekend is upon us and a proud mom, Mariel Padilla, has taken to Instagram to shed some light on a part of motherhood that most people prefer to tuck away.
There's a lot of talk about the bundle of joy, but in #RememberingWhenIwasSUPERFat, Mariel candidly talked about how her body changed drastically when she was pregnant with Isabella and the weight she retained after she gave birth.
In the series, she touches on a few things to which the formerly skinny can relate:
1. Things don't fit anymore! Yikes! "My biggest/heaviest was when Isabella was about a year old... I was 178lbs!!! Heavier than my super fit husband. Even my fingers were fat ... my rings could not fit me," Mariel shared.
She had very few clothes to choose from and she had to buy new shoes. If you have money to spare for a new wardrobe, that's good — but if you don't, you'll have to share Mariel's Mantra: "FAT IS NOT FOREVER!"

2. Avoiding people altogether for fear of being tagged "losyang." It hardly matters to some people that your body was a vessel for a new life and you're nourishing a new human. All some people notice is the weight you're not losing after you give birth — not that there's a memo saying you have to, btw!
"We went to Europe when Isabella was 6-months-old and I barely posted photos because I really didn’t want people to see how big I got," Mariel said.
That's in addition to this confession: "I remember being so insecure with my physical attributes like i really didn’t want people to see me and think that i lost myself and became 'losyang.'"
3. When you actually have to gain weight and you feel "bad" about it. Hormones are really difficult to deal with and Mariel shared that hers were "messed up" and it was getting in the way of how she wanted to nourish Isabella.
"I had very little milk and I wanted to exclusively breastfeed her (which i did for 14 months) so I ate my way to have milk," she said. "It worked for me but my body suffered. No regrets though."
4. She was already thinking of the insults people would hurl at her. That thing people always say — "tumataba ka" — is so strange, because it's almost like they're assuming you don't notice that your shirt's a little tighter than usual? It's a slow crawl to loving yourself again, but it's easy when you have love around you.
Mariel shared a collection of selfies with Isabella and she said: "Here are some of the selfies we took but I couldn’t post because I didn’t want to be cyber bullied for being super fat! But look at us we were so happy (we still are hehe)."
5. It's not about just "eating right" or "exercising." There are people who are very lucky because they can get away with eating anything and everything, but it doesn't always work. And the evidence for exercise being a way to shed fat or weight is being questioned...so it's refreshing to read Mariel's post about going to Marie France.
"I celebrated my 33rd birthday there. You see it didn’t happen overnight... but with a some patience and a lot of sessions it really does happen. We had to take it slow because I was breastfeeding so I couldn’t do machines with RF (radiation)," she detailed.
