Kylie Padilla reveals post-pregnancy fitness secrets, home workouts

Kapuso actor Kylie Padilla revealed some of her fitness secrets and doable home workouts for new moms.

In an episode of Pinoy MD, Kylie talked about her fitness journey after giving birth to baby Alas in August 2017.

Kylie said that she gained weight both during and after her pregnancy, tipping the scales at 180 pounds, due to hormonal imbalances and how breastfeeding always made her hungry.

"Ako mas nag-gain ako ng weight after manganak ako kasi breastfeeding made me really hungry all the time. Tapos kasama na rin 'yong may imbalance sa hormones so I was hungry. Talagang ang sarap kumain," she said.

In May 2018, Kylie made her comeback on Lip Sync Battle looking trim and fit at her old weight of 120 pounds, which she reached through proper diet and regular exercise.

The actress said that when Alas turned six months old, she went on a diet for some weeks before starting her workout.

"Nung nag-six months na si Alas, I started on a diet. Diet muna ng one or two months, and then nag-start ako mag-workout nung eight months na siya. Tuloy-tuloy na 'yon," she said.

Kylie said since her body had got used to sitting down a lot, she found working out difficult at first before she got accustomed to it again.

"It was gradual kasi nasanay 'yong katawan ko na naka-stand by lang, naka-upo lang, so medyo nahihirapan ako when I did cardio. Medyo may mga palpitations pa, but then nung nasanay paunti-unti ayun tinuloy tuloy ko na," she said.

Here are some of the workouts Kylie did when she was starting out.

Workout: Pelvic Bridge

Reps: 15 counts for 3 sets

How to do it: Lie down on a mat with knees bent and your feet on the floor. Put your hands by your sides, palm down, then lift your hips up and then bring them down again.

"'Eto favorite ko 'to kasi para siya sa puwet. Ang ating mga puwet, mommies, medyo nag-sag, kaya kailangan natin tong i-workout 'yan and also natatamaan din 'yong hips natin and ang abdominal muscles. So let's do it. Ibalik na natin ang sexiness na 'yan," Kylie said.

Workout: Bird dog

Reps: 15 counts for 3 sets

How to do it: On your hands and knees, extend your left arm and right leg at the same time. Repeat, then do the same for the other side (right arm, left leg.)

"Ganon din 'eto rin ang tina-target na buttocks  and abdominal muscles kasi 'yan naman talaga ang tina-tighten natin," Kylie said.

According to Pinoy MD, this workout also strengthens the arms and targets leg cellulite.

Workout: Lunges with dumbbell fly

Reps: 15 counts for 3 sets

How to do it: With a dumbbell in each hand, lunge forward while raising both arms up on the sides.

If you don't have dumbbells, Kylie said, you can use empty water bottles that can be filled with liquid. This hack will save you from making the lack of dumbbells an excuse to skip a workout!

"Nag-abroad kasi ako one time tapos wala akong dumbbells but I wanted to workout, so ang ginawa ko kumuha na lang ako ng water bottle or kung anong bottle na puwede niyong lagyan ng liquid or water tapos 'yon na lang ang gamitin niyo na pang-lift. Same effect."

Workout: Going up and down the stairs

The last workout is simply running up and down the stairs. Kylie said that this exercise was one she picked up from dad Robin Padilla when she was young.

"'Etong cardio workout na 'to natutunan ko sa tatay ko when he was preparing for a show nung bata pa ako. Umaakyat-baba siya ng hagdan, so 'yon ang ginagawa ko rin nung gusto ko magpapayat when I was starting out. Akyat-baba ako ng 40 floors, so puwede niyo gawin 'yan imbis na magelevator puwede kayo gumamit ng stairs."

Pinoy MD said that for an effective workout, your heart rate must increase. The show advised picking up the pace when doing this workout while still being careful.  — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/BM, GMA News
