Baby Sevy now in US for treatment
Sevy, the baby that went viral on social media for bravely battling an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia—a rare type of blood cancer—is now in the United States for treatment.
In a report by Saleema Refran on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday, Baby Sevy's parents have been able to successfully arrange his travel documents and bring him to Memphis, Tennessee.
Baby Sevy was carefully boarded to the airplane and was accompanied by two doctors and medical equipment in his almost 24-hour flight.
The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the US will shoulder all the expenses for his treatment.
Baby Sevy is currently having blood transfusions and will have to undergo some tests before he receives chemotherapy sessions.
"Ang dasal namin kayanin ito ni Sevy. Sa pagka-explain sa amin ng doctors, ang 12 months below ang chances nila doon is 20 percent. Hopefully kayanin ni Sevy 'yung paggagamot and ma-clear siya of all the Leukemia cells," Dan Co, Sevy's father, said.
Baby Sevy's parents expressed their gratitude to those who made it possible for their child to receive treatment in the US.
"Maraming salamat sa lahat ng tumulong sa amin. Agencies, tao, Facebook followers ng page ni Sevy. Natulungan niyo po akong madugtungan 'yung buhay ni Sevy at hindi po namin makakalimutan 'yun," Co added.
Last week, personnel from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) visited Baby Sevy in a local hospital to process his passport.
Meanwhile, parents of Baby Edge, another Filipino baby who is suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, hope that he can also receive treatment from the same pediatric hospital in the US that accommodated Baby Sevy.
The DFA has already processed the passport of Baby Edge by bringing its services to the hospital.
"We're waiting for feedback from Saint Jude kung maiko-consider nila na kuhanin po 'yung case ni Edge 'yun po 'yung prayer namin sa ngayon," mother Arabelle Baloaloa said.
Their family is also raising funds for the treatment of Baby Edge. — Dona Magsino/RSJ, GMA News
