Can drinking red wine help control hypertension?

Good news, wine lovers! Drinking half a wine glass a day can control hypertension.

Speaking to Pinoy MD, Dr. Marilou Bunyi, Chairman of the Philippine Heart Association Council on Hypertension, said “certain limit of alcohol can actually dilate and open up your arteries, na pwedeng makapagpalambot ng artery para medyo bumaba yung pressure.”

Of course, moderate drinking is always the way to go with Dr. Bunyi saying, “kung marami kang iinumin, baka mas tumaas pa ang blood pressure mo.”

Hypertension is a chronic illness that plagues one of four Filipinos.

Eating salty food is often the culprit — with sodium building up in the blood vessels causing high blood pressure.

According to Pinoy MD, drinking maintenance medicine, limiting sodium intake to 140 milligrams per serving, and exercise are the best ways to control the illness.
