Water stuck in our ears may lead to infection, doctor says

It's normal for water to get inside our ears, especially when we're out swimming, but we should drain it out as soon as possible.

According to Internist Dr. Rolando Balburis, water stuck inside our ears can lead to hazardous effects.

In a recent Pinoy MD episode, Balburias said that the water that gets inside the ear can become "medium for bacteria to grow and later on cause infection 'yung tinatawag nating otitis media na magdudulot pa ng pangangailangan ng antibiotics."

If removing the water personally is to no effect, Balburias urged patients to visit their ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) doctor since they have a machine that can suck the water from ear.

If the water remains there and otitis media is contracted, the patient's hearing can even be damaged.
