Persistent warts on your feet? Your immune system might be weak

In a recent Pinoy MD episode, dermatologist Dr. Jean Marquez said that having kulugo on your feet or plantar warts could be a sign that you have a weak immune system.

She said, "Ang plantar warts, it's caused by an infection kung kaya ang viral infection, they're prone to recur in patients with compromised immune system."

She suggested that patients should visit a doctor to properly get checked just in case the person is experiencing a medical condition already.

Aside from a weak immune system, plantar warts can also be caused by either nutrient deficiency or exposure to a moist environment.

"Baka ang paa laging moist. Lagi kang exposed sa moist environment like swimming pools or nagpapaa ka," she said.

It's therefore suggested to make sure that your feet are dry and clean to avoid plantar warts from growing.

Marquez also mentioned that this skin condition is five times more likely to come back if you're a smoker.

If you find yourself having plantar warts, Marquez said it's best to visit a dermatologist to know the best treatment possible. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
