Don't confuse myoma with cysts, doctor says

Myoma is completely different from cysts, said OB Gynecologist Dr. Raul Quillamor in a recent Pinoy MD episode.

Cysts, he said are usually benign. There are only rare cases that it's found to be malignant.

Myoma, on the other hand, can only be found in the uterus. It's a benign tumor on the muscles of the uterus that grow when the woman is having her menstruation, and as such it's influenced by hormones, Quillamor said.

"So ibig sabihin," he added, "ito ay hormonally influenced. Ang cyst hindi."

Cyst or myoma, Quillamor highly recommends that the patient still go to an OB gynecologist in order to remove it, especially if it's in the ovaries since it can turn and can rupture inside, which is very dangerous. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
