Denise Laurel gets real after she was called 'fat' at work
After being called "fat" at work, Denise Laurel took to Instagram to express her thoughts on hearing snide remarks about a person's body weight.
"Someone called me fat at work yesterday! I love that I’m not even trippin' about it. I love and understand me! Yes, I’m curvy!" Denise wrote on Instagram.
She said on normal days, Denise is "34c-25-37 (cause da booty) and the abs are poppin' for no reason."
"On my best days, my waistline gets even smaller. Sometimes, if everything is in sync, I go back to my 23.5 waist! And I still look fat!"
Denise said she understands that curvy girls are "one wrong angle, one wrong outfit, one burger away from looking fat."
Despite society's standards of a person's body weight, Denise understands her body and she has been patient with what she needs for herself and for her job.
"It’s not that I don't care [but] THIS IS ME! I’ve been so patient x understanding with myself! I understand what my job needs, I understand what patience I need for myself as well, and of course discipline."
Denise also revealed she had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and the medicine she's taking has several side effects including feeling bloated and feeling sleepy.
"I remind myself this medicine I’m taking for my PCOS makes me sleepy, super bloated, makes me hungry gives me zits + headaches," she said.
She knows that the body is constantly changing, reminding herself that it's "just a transition n break for myself on this fitness journey...its all about health for me! Mental, spiritual, physical!"
The 32-year-old actor said she decided to write a post about the incident not because she feels bad, but to inspire others to also love themselves no matter what stage they are in.
"Specially in those transition periods! That’s the time u need it the most :) LOVE OTHERS in transition! hugs everyone!! Squishy hugs!" she ended her post. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
