Obese man whose girlfriend left him loses more than 200 pounds in one year

Cristofer, a 26-year old man who used to be obese, has lost more than two hundred pounds after his ex-girlfriend broke up with him because of his weight.

In a Saturday episode of "Pinoy MD," Cristofer shared his inspiring story on how he was able to develop his confidence and work towards his fitness goals.

Cristofer has been chubby since he was a little boy. When he was young, he would always eat dishes that were high in carbohydrates, like pancit canton paired with cooked rice.

According to his friend Lovely Casio, he can consume one and a half kilos of cooked rice a day.

Because of his unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyle, he gained a lot of weight, which made it difficult for him to perform daily chores.

"Sa jeep, lagi siyang sinisingil na apat 'yung bayad kasi nga sobrang laki niya. Tapos dahil siksikan...minsan hindi siya kasya 'dun so ang tagal namin maka-entrance...[at] makababa," said Lovely.

Cristofer's love life was also drastically affected when his former girlfriend left him, because of his weight.

His confidence dropped, and he was discriminated and laughed at by his peers in school.

Lovely recalled that others would even "use" him, and take advantage of his lack of confidence.

According to Cristofer, this was what pushed him to lose weight. Instead of going to the gym, where he feared that he would be judged by people, he started exercising at home.

After a year of regular cardio exercise and a fruit-based diet, he was able to lose 220 pounds. He now weighs 243 pounds.

"Before, mataba ako. Kumbaga araw araw, struggle sa akin eh. [Parang iniisip ko], 'isang araw lang naman ito. Puro diskriminasyon naman 'yung haharapin ko, ganyan. Mahihirapan nanaman ako magcommute. Pagtatawanan ako ng ibang tao'," Cristofer told Pinoy MD.

"Parang 'nung na-achieve ko na 'yung ganito ko pong aspect, ganitong katayuan ko ngayon, napakadali ngayon 'yung buhay ko," he added.

Cristofer also said that he was now more confident to face whatever life would throw at him.

He does not have a girlfriend, but he said that he isn't in a rush to get into a relationship, anyway. Instead, he's been going out on dates, a result of his newfound confidence. — Angelica Y. Yang/LA, GMA News
