Pasig City rolls out e-trikes for patients

Pasig City has rolled out a transportation service using e-tricycles to help patients get to the hospital amid the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Mayor Vico Sotto announced the "Libreng Hatid" initiative in a Facebook post on Monday.

The service is for patients who need regular check-ups or treatment, not for medical emergencies.

"Para sa mga pasyenteng nangangailangan ng transportasyon! Dialysis, chemotherapy, atbp," Sotto said. "We will accomodate as many patients as we can. First-come first-served basis po tayo."

Those who wish to avail of the e-trike service may call 8-643-0000 and provide information such as name, contact number, complete address, time of check-up, destination hospital, clinic or center, and proof of medical appointment.

Public transportation remains suspended in Luzon as residents are still under strict home quarantine to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The lack of transportation has been a problem for some people with serious illnesses, such as the cancer patient who had to walk from Masinag, Antipolo to the checkpoint at Marcos Highway.

Another cancer patient from Antipolo was forced to walk all the way to Quezon City to get his chemotherapy medicine. --MGP, GMA News
