Coffin awaits violators of enhanced community quarantine in Sampaloc, Manila

Luzon remains under enhanced community quarantine, and a barangay in Sampaloc, Manila is using a coffin to remind its residents to stay home and prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to an "Unang Balita" report on Monday, Barangay 436 has borrowed a coffin from a local funeral home and set it up on Loreto Street with a sign that reads "Please stay at home or stay inside this coffin."

Barangay captain Roma Pangga Andrea said they encountered no "pasaway" residents passing by the area from 8 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

"'Yung reaction din nung mga tao din na tungkol din diyan sa kabaong na yan, eh hindi na sila dumadaan pa doon," Andrea said.

A total of 74 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Sampaloc, but Barangay 436 had yet to report any.

The report cited info from the Manila Public Information office, saying there were at least 305 confirmed cases in Manila, along with 38 fatalities and 25 recoveries.

The Philippines overall had 4,648 confirmed COVID-19 cases, along with 297 fatalities and 197 recoveries as of Sunday. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
