Pinay nurse says staff are given only one PPE per shift in New York hospital
Medical staff at a hospital in New York are given only one set of personal protective equipment per shift, a Filipino nurse revealed.
In an episode of "Frontliners," a Brigada special online series, Kaye Pascual talked about situation in New York City, the epicenter of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the United States.
"Binibigyan nila kami ng [PPE] per tao, so per staff talagang isa na lang din, so kailangan kong budget-in for the whole shift," she said.
Pascual shared that New York, dubbed as the "city that never sleeps," looks almost like a ghost town these days.
Whenever she would commute to the hospital, she said that fewer and fewer people were riding the train.
"Yesterday I realized na ako nalang pala sumasakay," she said. "'Yung mga healthcare workers na lang talaga 'yung lumalabas."
When she goes to the grocery store between 7 to 8 in the morning, she sees only a handful of people shopping, mostly the elderly who take advantage of the early period since fewer people were present.
"Paano kung wala silang anak? Paano kung sila lang mag-isa? Wala silang mautusan para bumili ng pagkain nila," Pascual said.
