A coconut farm in Liliw, Laguna has turned lambanog into ethyl alcohol

It's almost a little too out-of-this-world but Daang Hari Campgrounds also known as Esmeris Farm  in Liliw, Laguna has successfully turned lambanog into ethyl alcohol.

On Unang Hirit Monday, farm owner Vic Esmeris told Love Añover about how the widely reported lambanog poisoning from 2019 resulted in zero sales for them.

So when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they decided to pivot and use lambanog in producing ethyl alcohol to meet the demands.

Essentially, it's having the tuba go through a two-part processes. In the lambanog form, they distill it further for another 6-8 hours to turn it into ethyl alcohol.

The results are fascinating. According to Love, the alcohol is mild and even gives off a moisturising feel to the skin.

If this sounds like a glorified science project, think again.

Daang Hari's ethyl alcohol has been tested and approved by the Department of Science and Technology and is being promoted by the Philippine Coconut Authority. — LA, GMA News
