Shay Mitchell reveals how she gained and lost weight during quarantine


Shay Mitchell has opened up about how she ended up gaining then losing a lot of weight during quarantine.

The Filipino-Canadian actress, known for playing Emily in the show “Pretty Little Liars,” posted before and after photos to show how her body had transformed over the past year.

Shay told her almost 30 million Instagram followers how she turned to unhealthy eating habits after the lockdown.

“2020 was the year of searching for something to make us feel good. Not even good …to feel fine. Feel ‘normal…,’” she said.

“For me that came in the form of comfort food, comfort clothes and throwing my fitness routine out the window. And that was okay … for a while. They’re called unprecedented times for a reason.”

The actress said she eventually realized she had to become the “best version of herself” for her daughter Atlas.

“I also learned about physical and mental self-care, and made a pact with myself that 2021 would be different,” she said.

“I wanted to focus on myself again, because I’m the best version of myself for Atlas—and everyone else—when I take care of myself first.”

Shay said she got her “sh*t together” after undergoing a fitness program that involved 30-minute workouts five days a week.

“In just 4 weeks I have felt more fit than I have in a long time, and already have the results to show,” she said.

“A clear start, a clear finish and a something that I could totally commit to,” she added.

Shay, who also starred on Netflix’s “YOU,” welcomed her first baby, Atlas, with boyfriend Matte Babel in 2019. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
