4 easy exercises you can do at home to relieve back pain

Working from home the past year has surely done a number to your body.

Orthopedic and sports doctor Wesson Espiritu said even young adults can suffer from back pain due to "wrong positioning, wrong posture, or position ng body kapag nagbubuhat."

"'Yung spine natin parang tower 'yan, and around the tower maraming supporting structure to keep us erect, to keep us naka-diretso," he said in an interview on Unang Hirit.

"Kapag matagal kang nakaupo with the wrong posture, wrong position, syempre the supporting structures around the spine nag-fa-fatigue din sila so nag-ma-manifest siya sa pain," he added.

Luckily, Dr. Espiritu was all too willing to share some exercises to alleviate back pain.

1. Standing Hamstring Stretch

Place one leg on a low platform, such as a chair. Make sure your back and the back of your knees are straight. Slowly reach for your foot.

Do this for ten to thirty seconds interval, at least every hour.

2. Cat and Camel

Kneel and brace your body with your hands on the floor. Once you're on all fours, simply arc your back, stretching it into a U and an inverted U shape.

3. Partial Curl

Lay back on the ground as if you're preparing to do sit-ups.

Tighten stomach and lift your upper body, curling your abdomen halfway. Hold this position for five seconds.

4. Extension Exercise

Lay face down on the ground. Position your hands on the floor on either side of your chest and lift your upper body, forming an arc.

Hold this position for a few seconds. —JCB, GMA News
