Kris Bernal shuts down body shamers: 'My body is not yours to critique and discuss'

Before Kris Bernal gets married next month, she took to Instagram to shut down body shamers.

"Before I put another ring on it, let me talk about the things that I value - societal beauty standards," Kris began before asking: "Do you hate your body or do you hate the social meaning given to your body that has resulted in people treating you in a harmful way?"

Posting a photo of herself wearing sheer coordinates that highlighted her fit figure, Kris said, "No, I'm not ugly. I'm just not the beauty standard! Body shaming - fat and skinny shaming - social media has brought it to an all-time high!"

Sounding as though she's had enough of "society telling us all the time to look a certain way or be a certain weight or wear a certain thing," Kris vowed that in her little corner in the internet, she will not be listening to any judgements.

"Erase temporary societal beauty standards that play on social security, bad conscience, low self-esteem, or contribute to body pressure," she said.

"What some of will call 'Imperfections' e.g. cellulites, dark armpits, wrinkles, acne, eye bags, sagging boobs, stretch marks, little fat rolls, bloated tummies, bones and veins popping - I call 'REALITY,'" she added.

Kris said these so-called "imperfections" have "a lot to say about our lives, experiences, they have a lot to say about all of us, incredible, powerful women who must learn to appreciate every little thing that makes us, 'SHE.'"

Kris has been standing up against body shamers on social media after receiving her fair share of judgements from some netizens.

Anyway, on Sunday, the actress said she will tie the knot on September 25 and the ceremony will be livestreamed on her YouTube channel. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
