Maxene Magalona speaks up against sentiments yoga, meditation ‘go against God’

Maxene Magalona, who has been vocal in sharing her spiritual journey to her followers, has spoken up against sentiments that yoga, meditation, and crystals "go against God."

In a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday, the actress shared a photo of her "soul space" where Hinduism's elephant-headed god Ganesha, crystals, mala beads, sage, and rosaries could be seen.

Refuting the idea that yoga, meditation, and crystals "go against God," Maxene wrote: "I was baptized as Catholic and while I have nothing but respect for all kinds of religion, I now choose to live my life being spiritual more than religious. Religion is a beautiful way to express our faith but it is not the ONLY way. This is why I respect ALL religions and beliefs."

Maxene said she remained a Catholic and still prayed the religion's known prayers whenever she was anxious because these "instantly bring me peace."

However, she also said she felt closest to God when she started connecting herself on a deeper level through other practices.

"Ever since I started listening to my soul, it just kept nudging me towards the path of spirituality," she said.

Maxene said her "soul space" was made of different components that addressed different key points in life, from unconditional love to clearing unwanted energies.

"This is how I hold space for ALL religions and beliefs just like how I hold space for ALL living beings. Because this is how God intended for the world to be—in union and harmony," she said.

"If your religion makes you judge other people’s choices and treat them unkindly, then I believe that THAT is what goes against God. Not sage or crystals which actually came from Mother Nature. God is energy. God is love. And love is my religion. Therefore, God is my religion."

Maxene has revealed that yoga helped her with her complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
