Six-year-old girl with skin condition that causes bleeding wounds needs help for treatment

A six-year-old girl with a skin condition that causes bleeding wounds needs help so she can get medical treatment.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, Crizilda Balita’s wounds started from a birthmark. Apart from cuts, blood clots also started developing around it.

“Napapansin ko kapag siya ay lumalaki, lumalaki din ang kanyang sugat. Hindi lang lumalaki, kumakalat pa,” said her father Jessie Balita.

[I noticed that as she grows up, her wounds also get big and spread.]

Because of her condition, Crizilda, who’s in Grade 1, has difficulty writing because her skin bleeds when it touches a surface.

“Kumukuha po kami ng towel tapos dinidiin lang po sa sugat niya para ’di kumalat yung dugo,” Jessie said.

[We just apply pressure on it using a towel to reduce the bleeding.]

Crizilda had been suffering from her skin condition since she was young but she never had it checked due to her family’s lack of finances.

GMA Kapuso Foundation received their message on Facebook and immediately reached out to the family to extend help.

The foundation brought grocery packs to their home in Dumantay, Batangas, and brought Crizilda to dermatologist Dr. Grace Beltran.

According to the dermatologist, Crizilda has epidermal nevi, a kind of “birthmark” where there’s abnormal growth on the epidermal or upper layer of the skin.

“Nag-iipon ’yung cells sa taas kaya kumakapal ’yung epidermis,” she said.

[The cells accumulate on the upper part so the epidermis becomes thick.]

The doctor said it could be treated by surgical excision or topical cream. For the meantime, she gave Crizilda soap and cream to treat her condition.

Jessie is asking for help so his daughter can undergo further treatment. “Nais ko sanang mapa-checkup ulit at mawala ’yung kanyang sakit para lumaki siyang hindi takot sa tao,” he said.

[I hope she can get another checkup so her pain will go away and she can grow without being afraid of other people.]
