Does using a menstrual cup result in looseness down there?

While using a menstrual cup has gained popularity among women through the years, many people are still hesitant to make the switch because of a question some are afraid or shy to ask: does the use of a menstrual cup result in looseness of the vagina?

According to Dr. Angelynn Lapada, an Obstetrics and Gynaecology doctor from Kindred Health Philippines, the short answer is no.

Using a menstrual cup or tampon "will not predispose you to the laxity of the vagina because those [menstrual cup, tampon] are actually small," Lapada told GMA News Online.

"The babies can pass through the birth canal, [but even] having a vaginal birth does not automatically say that you have a lax vagina," she added.

Lapada explained that some factors, such as lifting heavy objects and having a lot of vaginal deliveries, are just a few reasons that could lead to a loose vagina but using a menstrual cup or tampon alone would not lead to it.

During Nala Woman's "Let's Talk Women" conference held recently, Lapada also talked about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, and how to control its symptoms.

She also discussed why women using tampons and menstrual cups should watch out for Toxic Shock Syndrome.
