Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee continues to advocate for autism awareness in the international pageant’s advocacy video portion.

In her piece, Michelle said autism acceptance, inclusivity, and empowerment are things “very close” to her heart. She has two brothers in the autism spectrum, after all.

Acceptance, inclusivity, and empowerment are also the three foundational pillars to creating a more inclusive and sustainable world, she said.

The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) ambassador shared the stats: one in every 100 children is born with autism.

ASP, which is Southeast Asia’s largest non-governmental organization, has become a “beacon of hope” for hundreds of neurodiverse individuals by opening over 250 jobs across 53 enterprises in 10 provinces.

For Michelle, this is a testament to the many things we can do if we prioritize inclusivity and harness the untapped potential of these individuals.

This move also serves as a strategic advantage for employers, as individuals on the autism spectrum possess a unique skill set, “making them valuable assets in various roles.”

“This is not about change," Michelle said. "This is about transformation."

“As we work towards the sustainable development goal of creating opportunities for all, let’s remember that we are not alone in this journey. We stand united with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families,” she continued.

Michelle reminded that together, we can build an inclusive and empowering community.

“Let’s be the voice for those who don’t have one. Let’s be the reason why millions of lives become empowered, and let’s be a true force for good together,” the candidate said.

On her Instagram account, Michelle said that she poured her heart out into the advocacy video.

“We were required to make this a 3 minute video, but I have so much more I want to vocalize. With the help of Miss Universe, I know we can truly make the greatest impact across the globe,” she wrote, tagging the beauty pageant's official account.

In May, Michelle was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2023 and continued to further advocate for autism awareness.

She will represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2023 competition to be held in El Salvador on November 18.
