Doctors share tips on how to keep the body healthy despite constant computer, gadget use

Staying glued to computers and gadgets has negative long-term effects on the body, but there are ways to prevent them.

According to a report by Katrina Son on "State of the Nation," constant exposure to screens can lead to dry eyes, vision deterioration, and persistent headaches.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Pius Jonas F. Ocampo said, "Dapat conscious tayo sa time na nakaharap tayo sa computer."

He explained the "20-20-20" rule — for every 20 minutes spent on a gadget, you must look at a spot 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

It is important to rest your eyes three times an hour, and to stay away from gadgets, including phones, during this period.

Meanwhile, remaining behind a desk for long periods of time can have bad effects on the body as well.

That said, people should make sure they have "proper desk ergonomics," according to orthopedic and spine surgeon Dr. Mikhail Lew P. Ver.

"Ang gusto sana namin, lagi kayo sanang nakatingin ng diretso," he said.

"Kung kinakailangan mo siyang gamitan ng patuloy, mabuti na to stretch out, stand up, go around the tabe, go around the desk," he added. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
