1,300 Pinoys promote women’s rights, safe spaces thru running initiative
Over 1,300 Filipinos collectively ran 130,000 kilometers to support women’s rights and gender equity in FundLife’s Move for Equity campaign.
According to a statement on Wednesday, non-profit organization FundLife’s campaign collaboration with the Girls Got This movement and international brand ON Running aims to raise awareness about issues women face in accessing safe spaces, education, and dignified work.
Under the theme "Move for Every Girl Who Can’t," participants joined the movement through community-driven action of running or walking at least 3.8 kilometers each day during the month of March.
The movement reached peak activity during events held on March 9, recording over 203 individuals participating in Tacloban City and 480 participants joining the #Move event held at Ayala Avenue in Makati City as part of International Women’s Day.
"Move for Equity is not just about running — it's about creating communities where every girl feels seen, safe, and unstoppable… Through play, sport, and education, we are unlocking opportunities where they are needed most, and creating a future where every child can dream boldly,” said Marko Kasic, Executive Director of FundLife.
“The 'Move' series—Move for Peace, Move for Equity, Move for Life, and Move for Play—invites people to run for something meaningful… It’s a movement that transcends sport, rooted in solidarity, resilience, and hope,” he added.
FundLife is now preparing for their next major initiative “Move for Play” in June, which celebrates every child’s right to dream, play, and thrive.
FundLife was established in 2014 to use sport as a tool for social change, utilizing community-based programs aiming to provide consistent opportunity and protection to various sectors. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
