A total of 197 traffic volunteers, farmers, and tour guides in Atimonan, Quezon received medical services through the GMA Kapuso Foundation on Labor Day.

According to "24 Oras" Friday, the traffic volunteers stationed alongside the Old Zigzag Road connecting Pagbilao and Atimonan assist motorists and help them navigate the dangerous road.

Among them is 63-year-old Lorna Escullar, who has been a traffic volunteer for more than two decades. While there is no certainty when it comes to how much she earns daily, she remains committed to her work as a volunteer.

"Minsan ay 150 lang kami, masaya kami kahit piso lang," she said.

Another traffic volunteer, Josephine Sarte, uses her earnings from the work to help with the expenses of her child in college.

"Bilang volunteers po, so literal po wala po silang sweldo," said Airey Alano, Atimonan Tourism Officer. "May mga ilan po tayong byahero na nagmamabuting loob pong mag-abot ng kaunting barya."

On Labor Day, the GMA Kapuso Foundation offered free medical services to the traffic volunteers, farmers, and tour guides in Atimonan.

These include free consultations, X-ray, ECG, fasting blood sugar (FBS) test, and medicines. They also received food packs, vitamins, and clothes, while Kapuso volunteer artists kept them entertained.

"ECG, nakikita natin diyan 'yung mga basic abnormalities dun sa ating puso. X-ray makikita natin diyan kung tayo ay may mga sakit sa baga. HbA1c, ito ay nakikita mo kung over the past three months ang iyong blood sugar ay controlled," said Dr. Joanna Advincula-Illiligay, chief of hospital at the Quezon Province Hospital Network Doña Marta.
