100 fathers in Navotas receive free medical services through GMA Kapuso Foundation

A total of 100 fathers in Navotas received free prostate-specific antigen tests and urinalysis through the GMA Kapuso Foundation in line with the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

According to "24 Oras" on Monday, beneficiaries of the initiative included fishermen whose livelihoods have been affected by the rainy season.

For fisherman Romelito Manuel, the persistent rains have made it hard to go out to sea. To make ends meet, he collects trash by the river.

"'Di pare-parehas. Ngayon wala dahil nag-uulan, Malaki alon, malakas ang hangin. Minsan hindi nakakalabas dahil wala nga panggastos," he said.

Meanwhile, fellow fisherman Arnel makes fishing nets to supplement his earnings.

Committed to prioritizing their family's daily needs, both Manuel and Arnaiz have put their health on the back burner, with financial challenges preventing them from seeking medical check-ups.

To help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation provided free prostate-specific antigen tests and urinalysis to 100 fathers in Navotas. They also received hygiene kits, vitamins, food, mats, pillows, clothes, and free haircuts.

"Kung may prostate cancer sa pamilya, mas maganda 40 years old and above. Tapos ginagawa 'yan every year, taon-taon. Meron kami tinatawag na PSA velocity, kung masyadong mabilis hindi maganda 'yun, so taon-taon 'yan," said Dr. Michael Macalalag, president of the Philippine Urological Association.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, Shopee, and Palawan Pay. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information. —CDC, GMA News
