‘Smaller and Smaller Circles’ releases a five-episode companion piece especially for Human Rights Day
To commemorate Human Rights Day, the celebrated indie movie “Smaller and Smaller Circles” — which is still in theaters BTW — released a five-episode companion piece on YouTube.
“First Person with Joanna Bonifacio” highlights five of the serial killer's victims, through the work of Joanna Bonifacio.
Bonifacio, as many of us know by now, is the strong-willed French-speaking female journalist played by Carla Humphries. She plays a central role in helping the priests resolve the case.
“Smaller and Smaller Circles”, based on the novel by F.H. Batacan, follows two Jesuits as they help the NBI solve a series of murders involving young boys in Payatas.
Always, when the authorities discover the boys, they are on top of the garbage heap, their genitals are cut off and their faces peeled off. They become something of a jump off point for the story, a nameless backdrop in which the narrative takes place.
But these five shorts tell us the backstory of the victims — an important point to make, especially on a day like today. Watch it here.
