Doll dress designer Alvin Ocampo shares details on Catriona Gray dolls

Doll dress designer Alvin Dave Ocampo shared details on his Catriona Gray dolls in an episode on Unang Hirit on Monday morning.

Alvin created two Catriona dolls: one dressed in her national costume and the other clad in the iconic lava dress.

"Naging inspiration ko first si Catriona mismo. Nung nakita  ko 'yong performance niya sa Miss Universe. Sobrang galing at naisip ko na gawan siya ng tribute para sakanya," Alvin said.

Alvin revealed that it took him two weeks each for the two dresses.

He didn't leave out any details. With the national costume dress, he included the art printed on the back of the parol as well as the light.

For the parol, he said he used, "parchment paper, para makita 'yong lights 'pag umiilaw."

Alvin said he got the exact print from Catriona's mentor Caloy.

"'Yan talaga 'yong nasa likod ng parol mismo, kinuha ko siya kay Kuya Caloy which is 'yong mentor ni Catriona Gray," Alvin narrated.

For the lava dress, Alvin explained that he used a power mesh fabric to achieve the body hugging effect.

He said the "lava print, it's hand-painted, rhinestones and Swarovski crystals talaga, so dinikit ko siya one by one."

Even the face of the doll looked like Catriona, Alvin explained that it was painted by his friend George Pascual who is also a doll collector.

"Hinintay ko siya two to three weeks bago siya nakarating sakin," Alvin shared.

The Catriona dolls aren't the only creations from Alvin. He has also done those for Kapuso stars Lovi Poe, Heart Evangelista, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
