Vogue's Anna Wintour postpones Met Gala

The annual Met Gala, one of the most prestigious fashion events of the year, has been postponed due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who hosts the event, announced the development on Monday. She did not disclose new dates.

In Vogue's website, Wintour wrote, "Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will not take place on the date scheduled."

The red carpet event, attended annually by celebrities and personalities, is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year's exhibition was supposed to be "About Time: Fashion and Duration" set to open on the first week of May.

Despite the indefinite postponement, Wintour assured readers that the fashion magazine's American edition will be giving a preview of the exhibition in their upcoming May issue.

Numerous celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Kristofer Hivju, and Idris Elba have all tested positive with the virus. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
