Glastonbury Festival cancelled due to COVID-19 scare
The Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom has been cancelled amid the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a post on its Facebook page, the organizers said the move was their "only viable option" as the government imposed measures to contain the virus.
Glastonbury is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
"The cancellation of this year's Festival will no doubt come as a terrible blow to our incredible crew and volunteers who work so hard to make this event happen," the post read.
"There will also inevitably be severe financial implications as a result of this cancellation - not just for us, but also the Festival's charity partners, suppliers, traders, local landowners and our community."
The organizers apologized to those who have already paid for their tickets and said they could roll their deposit to next year and have a guaranteed opportunity to purchase tickets for 2021.
They could also opt to refund their deposit until September.
Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar, and Diana Ross were supposed to headline the Glastonbury 2020.
The World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic.
As of Wednesday, over 190,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed globally. Over 7,800 people have died of the disease. --MGP, GMA News
