10 movies to watch on Netflix if you miss school and your friends

School can be boring, but there’s also a lot of things you could miss: Seeing your crush in the hallway, hanging out with your friends, or just the overall experience of trying new things.

Exciting adventures on-campus, best friend drama, and cheesy high school romances might just be what you need to escape the perpetual boredom at home during the lockdown.

For your viewing pleasure, here’s a list of teen favorites you can find on Netflix:

“Pitch Perfect”

Beca (Anna Kendrick) is a rebellious freshie who had no intention of joining cliques when she arrived at her new school, but she somehow ends up joining the Barden Bellas, an all-female a capella group, and they become the best of friends.

“Mean Girls”

If you haven’t seen this teen classic,  “you can’t sit with us.”

“Mean Girls” centers on Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan), a homeschooled teen who goes to a high school ruled by an elite group of students called “The Plastics.” Here, she falls in love with the gorgeous Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), and gets a quick primer on the cruelties of popularity.

“Kissing Booth”

Elle Evans (Joey King) finds her world turned upside down after locking lips with her long-time crush Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi) at the spring carnival.

You better get a move on and see it, because this Netflix Original has a sequel coming this July.

“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”

What if those secret love letters you wrote to your crushes were actually sent? That’s what happened to Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) who now has to face Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) at school, as well as her good friend Josh (Israel Broussard) who also happens to be her sister’s boyfriend.

The light and heartwarming film, based on the young adult novel by Jenny Han, has a sequel titled “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.”

“Sixteen Candles”

This ’80s classic is about angsty, almost-16-year-old teenager named Samantha (Molly Ringwald) who is head-over-heels in love with a senior named Jake (Michael Schoeffling). She also tries to understand her feelings for a nerdy kid named Ted (Anthony Michael Hall) who’s really interested in her.

“Clueless”

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is a shallow and extremely fashionable girl at her Beverly Hills high school.

She slowly discovers that there’s more to life than being popular after giving a hopelessly klutzy new student (Brittany Murphy) a makeover and falls for her wise and charming stepbrother (Paul Rudd).

“The Breakfast Club”

Five high school students from different walks of life earn an unforgettable  day in detention.

The rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall), and jock Andrew (Emilio Estevez) learn each other’s stories and wonder if school will ever be the same.

“17 Again”

Michael O’Donnell (Matthew Perry) was a high school basketball star with a bright future, but he threw it all away to marry his girlfriend and raise their child. Thanks to a “spirit guide,” he gets to travel back in time to relive his glory days, but his choices to change his past end up jeopardizing his present and future.

Apart from Zac Efron playing the younger version of Michael, there are many other reasons for people in and out of high school to watch this film.

“Bring it On: All or Nothing”

It doesn’t get any more high school than teen spirit.

It was tough for cheerleader Britney Allen (Hayden Panettiere) to say goodbye to her school and friends, especially since she had to join a new squad at her new school. Britney is going to have to win the respect of the tough team captain Camille (Solange Knowles) before winning the crosstown cheerleading competition.

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Out”

As the title suggests, this ’80s comedy is all about a kid who has a lot of fun playing hooky.

After calling in sick, Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) has a grand adventure that involves a “borrowed” Ferrari, his girlfriend Sloan (Mia Sara), and seeing what Chicago has to offer. – RC, GMA News
