Quarantine trends: People turned to music for housecleaning motivation, created banana bread playlists and more, Spotify reveals
Amid the quarantine period, Spotify noticed global trends in playlists involving several activities people have been doing inside their homes.
Spotify pulled data between April 17 to May 17, listeners were soundtracking home activities, including cleaning, working from home, gardening, even baking banana bread, dyeing the hair and recreating summer vibes outside among other things.
In a statement,Spotify said they saw a 40% increase in listeners around the world who created playlists to help them "enthusiastically clean their homes."

Among Filipinos, popular "cleaning" songs included "No Scrubs" by TLC, "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus, "thank u, next" by Ariana Grande, "IDGAF" by Dua Lipa, and "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon.
Meanwhile, Spotify saw more than 1,000% increase in the creation of homeschool-themed playlist. Not a surprise since students have been stuck at home doing distance learning.
And as baking was a definite quarantine food trend, the streaming platform also saw a 120% increase in baking-themed playlists! "Sunday Best" by Surfaces, "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson, "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles, "Sugar" by Maroon 5, and "everything i wanted" by Billie Eillish were among the hits often included.
In fact, listeners created approximately 225% more banana bread-themed playlists, Spotify revealed. As of writing, there are over 2,750 banana bread playlists created.
There's also a whopping 430% increase in gardening-themed playlists and a 1,400% increase in working-from-home themed playlists.
Spotify also noted a 50% increase in the creation of playlists on dealing with hair maintenance — not quite a surprise given how we all endured growing our hair and then cutting it ourselves while on quarantine. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
