Want to be a voice over talent? Here are tips from a pro

Were you inspired by viral voice actress Inka Magnaye, the comforting in-flight voice you hear when aboard the Philippine Airlines?

If you want to follow her footsteps and become a voice talent, she has some tips for you.

Inka said she got a barrage of questions asking her for advice, so she made a YouTube video about it, based on her personal experience.

To kickstart your voice talent journey, here's what to do:

1. Practice!

There's no getting around it — the only way to get better at something is by practicing.

But don't just practice. Inka said you should record yourself and play it back, so you can hear for yourself where you have to improve. Also find someone you can emulate, so you can compare yourself to them.

"I know it sucks listening to your own voice but really, number one, you will get over it after a while. Number two, if you really want to do this, you'll suck it up," she said.

2. Learn hard vs. soft delivery

Inka said you should learn and practice the difference between hard and soft deliveries.

"Usually for me...you can classify different products as a hard or a soft. Women's products would be soft, men's products would be hard," she said.

Once you got that, then you got down two of the most basic types of deliveries to get started.

The more deliveries you learn how to do, the more opportunities you'll get.

3. Record samples then send them

Once you're satisfied with your recordings, it's time to record samples that you can send to companies that are holding casting calls.

"Go online, search sample V/O scripts then get cracking," she said.

She added that at the end of the day, if your voice fits, you'll get the job.

"It doesn't matter if you have so many things under your belt. If your voice can fit their product and if you can deliver the script effectively, then they'll get you," she said.

"It doesn't matter if it's your first or your 100th recording. They will get you, if you fit it," she added.

Inka went viral all over social media recently when she posted a video of her and her mom Lindy reciting PAL's in-flight script. Lindy was also PAL's voice over talent in the 90's.
