Unang Hirit surprises 59-year-old construction worker with a new bike

A 59-year-old construction worker has been walking all the way from UP to Novaliches every day just to get to work during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

But thanks to a brand new bike from GMA's morning show "Unang Hirit," Teresito Monarva will no longer get to his construction site with aching feet.

Ivan Mayrina caught up with Tatay Teresito along Commonwealth Avenue on Monday morning to reveal the surprise.

The old man shared that he always dreamed of owning a bike, especially since it took him up to five hours just to get to his construction site on foot.

"Minsan, lima (oras) kasi kasama ang pahinga, iinom ka ng tubig, ansakit din po kasi ng mga binti ko rin. Hindi ako tatagal sa lakad masyadong malayuan," he told Mayrina.

"Kaya ko kung meron lang sana akong bike, wala man akong pambili. Anong magagawa ko? Hanggang tingin lang ako," he added.

Mayrina, on the other hand, told him: "Kami po ay nakikiisa sa inyong sakripisyo sa araw-araw sa kagustuhan ninyong maghanapbuhay, makapasok sa trabaho."

"Lahat po tayo, alam naman natin, ay naapektuhan nitong krisis na ito, kaya gusto ho namin kayong tulungang makapagtrabaho," he added. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
