BTS sings about hope, love in new Japanese single ‘Stay Gold’


Amid the global pandemic, South Korean musical group BTS releases its latest Japanese single, “Stay Gold.”

The uplifting pop track opens with the lyrics, “in a world where you feel cold, you gotta stay gold, oh baby,” and assures listeners “as long as you’re here, I don’t need anything else.”

The mid-tempo song features the members’ powerful harmonizing vocals with its message, “there may be not so good things in this world, but I hope you don’t lose your brilliance.”

Less than 24 hours since its release on June 19 6 p.m. KST, “Stay Gold” has reached No. 1 on iTunes’ Top Song chart in 82 countries, including Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom, according to a report on South Korea’s Naver.

The song is the lead single off BTS’ 4th full-length Japanese album “Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey,” which will be available on music sites and record stores July 15.

The 13-track album will include 4 new songs and Japanese versions of some of the group’s latest hits, including “ON,” “Black Swan,” and “Boy With Luv.” 

BTS’s first live performance for “Stay Gold” will air on Japan’s TBS June 22.

“Stay Gold” is also featured on the original soundtrack of new Japanese TV series “The Spiral Labyrinth-DNA Science Investigation.”

It is the second Japanese soundtrack project for the band, after “Don’t Leave Me” which was featured on another TV series in 2018.

BTS’s latest single follows “Lights,” their Japanese song released in July 2019, which topped iTunes in 43 countries and broke records on local charts. – GMA News
