‘Virtual’ nightclub brings retro party online

A “virtual” nightclub is bringing a retro party to the people to help them cope amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sanctuary presents “Legends Collide,” an online livestream event featuring three of the country’s legendary DJs—John Robinson, John Tupaz, and Mon Maramba—on Saturday, July 25 at 9 p.m.

This is the first time the three DJ icons are coming together again after their very successful event in BGC back in 2017, which was attended by almost 1,800 people.

Robinson, Tupaz, and Maramba, who gained popularity at the club circuit in the ’80s and ’90s, will perform together live from their respective homes in the Philippines and the US via Twitch.

Sanctuary is the brainchild of Philippine-based Robinson, who was inspired by the musicians performing from their balconies in Italy during the coronavirus lockdown. It is a virtual nightclub where people can enjoy great music, make new friends, and socialize in a safe way.

Working with long-time producing partner, Dodo Melicor of DM Entertainment, and with the support of Trick Entertainment, Sanctuary has grown into a movement.

Regulars have named themselves “Sanctuarians” and local and international stars, including Randy Santiago, Juan Miguel Salvador, Martin Nievera, and “American Idol” finalist Elliott Yamin have made guest appearances.

Recently, Sanctuarians raised PhP 2 million to help in COVID-19 response efforts and for other worthy beneficiaries.

Sanctuary is live every Friday and Saturday night from 9 p.m. and Sunday morning from 10 a.m. The free streaming is available on Twitch. – RC, GMA News
