Japan's top animation studios unite to release anime on YouTube for free

Free anime you can legally stream? More possible that you might think!

According to Variety, Japan's top animation studios have united to create a YouTube channel where fans can watch anime shows with official subtitles legally and for free.

Animelog, or Anilog, was launched last Friday with studios such as Toei Animation and Kodansha providing anime titles for the initiative.

According to the report, their goal is to have 30 companies providing 3,000 anime titles by 2020.

The channel has yet to release videos available for streaming in the Philippines.

Currently, the channel only caters for locals, but there are plans to add English and Chinese subtitles for overseas viewers.

The channel was launched by Analyzelog, which noted the problem of illegal video distribution.

"There exists a problem of illegal video distribution service these days, but 'AnimeLog' will distribute only officially-licensed animations and operate as a safe channel that families can enjoy together," the company said in a statement.
