Siblings earn income amid pandemic thanks to 50-year-old family recipe

Five siblings managed to turn their fortunes around amid the coronavirus pandemic thanks to a 50-year-old family recipe.

According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras," the Hurtado family quickly saw their savings become depleted due to the disruptions caused by the lockdown.

They knew they had to come up with something to earn some income, and luckily, they had the perfect product uniquely their own: the Ilonggo-style lechon manok handed down from their grandfather to their father.

"Wala kaming experience sa negosyo so kung papasok ka sa isang bagay na bago sa 'yo introduce a product na naniniwala ka," said Gillian Hurtado-Dormitorio, the eldest daughter. "In our case nasasarapan talaga kami sa chicken ni Papa. It's always the highlight of parties."

They had a starting capital of P20,000, which they earned back in just eight days of business. Now, they managed to save up enough money for the education of Angeli, their youngest sibling who attends medical school.

The lechon manok also received rave reviews from celebrities such as Rodjun Cruz, Lovely Abella, and Claudine Barretto.

"Proud kami kasi galing siya ng Mindanao, shine-share namin ngayon dito sa Metro Manila," said Gillian, who added to the menu her own creamy pork lumpia.

Despite being away from their dad, who is currently based in Mindanao, the siblings are happy bounce back by serving food prepared with a secret recipe handed down from generation to generation.

"Always believe that the grace of God is with you," Gillian said. —MGP, GMA News
