‘Lucifer’ Season 5 drops this Friday, and here’s what to expect

Finally, after that devastating cliffhanger on Season 4, we can all watch “Lucifer” Season 5 on Netflix this Friday, Aug. 21.

GMA News Online spoke with showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovic, who shared some major details on the latest season.

We also got to see some episodes in advance, so we rounded up five awesome things to watch out for.

1. Double trouble

Tom Ellis fans are in for a treat as there won’t be just one but two “Lucifers” this season.

To recap, Season 4 ended with Lucifer saying a tearful goodbye to Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) before returning to his post as the King of Hell. As the trailer reveals, Lucifer is making a sexy comeback but he seems ... different.

It turns out that the powerful being who returns to Earth is actually Lucifer’s evil twin Michael who decides to take his brother’s place on earth for a little bit. According to Henderson, “the fun will be watching Michael settle into Lucifer’s life, and what happens when our Devil finds out someone’s been playing with his toys.”

2. More Lucifer x Decker scenes (Thank god.)

If Lucifer is back, then he’s got some ’splaining to do.

As the trailer reveals, Detective Decker finds herself in a mess of trouble and Lucifer, fresh from Hell, suddenly steps in to save the day (or did he).

What can a woman say to a guy who just popped back into her life after telling her he will not be coming back? Well, the good news is that we’ll see how Lucifer and Decker’s already-complicated relationship unfolds. And—of course—their hilarious immortal vs human banters are guaranteed.

3. There’s a noir episode.

Cue the jazz music, because one of the episodes is set in beautiful black and white.

New stills from Netflix show Tom and Lauren in stylish hats and old-fashioned suits.

We can’t exactly say why the pair ends up in some kind of smoky gangster era, but we can tell you that this special noir episode will be answering a lot of questions.

4. More glorious fight scenes

As we’ve mentioned, Tom Ellis portrays two characters this season: Lucifer and his evil twin Michael.

The two engage in an epic battle in the trailer. According to Henderson, Tom “worked his ass off” to play Lucifer and Michael, but they also found another actor who could hold his own against Ellis during their fight scenes.

Many more glorious fight scenes appear to be scattered all over Season 5.

5. Don’t worry, theres a Season 6.

To those who were devastated by earlier reports of “Lucifer” coming to an end at Season 5, the Devil heard you.

The show confirmed that there would be a Season 6, but had yet to announce official details on its release.

But first, have fun watching “Lucifer” Season 5 arriving this Friday, Aug. 21, on Netflix. – RC, GMA News
