Samantha Lo looks back on past behavior, expresses dedication to ‘be better’

Samantha Lo has expressed regret over “the person I had let myself become” and assured that she’s working on being a healthier and better person.

On an Instagram post Wednesday, the former Binibining Pilipinas Miss Grand International 2019 opened up about the events that transpired before and after her trip to Venezuela to compete for the title.

Sharing a photo of herself in a red dress and wearing the Philippines sash, she wrote: “I cringe every time I see the first picture because all I can remember is that I hated the person I had let myself become.”

“I was self-entitled, impatient, demanding, and I always wanted more and always wanted it now,” the beauty queen said.

“I allowed people to fill my head with thoughts that I was this ‘special person’ who deserved ‘special treatment’ which looking back now I think is bullsh*t because I knew I wasn’t putting in the work to gain that respect and privilege.”

Last year, after earning the privilege to represent the country at the Miss Grand International pageant, Samantha encountered delays going to Venezuela, where the competition would be held.

Despite reaching the pageant in time, she exited early in the competition.

After losing the pageant, Samantha resigned and was replaced by Binibining Pilipinas 1st runner up Aya Abesamis.

“I spent 3 months walking around with a crown on my head where the rhinestones would occasionally fall out on the ground in front of me, how’s that for dark humored foreshadowing?” said Samantha.

She then revealed that she spent the last days in Manila “snapping at everyone” who just wanted to help her.

“I got profiled as a prostitute and sat my ass in a freezing cold detainment cell for 14 hours, spent my parents’ money to send me to Venezuela, wasted my parents’ money when I didn’t even make the top 25, came home, resigned, didn’t have any backup plans, and fell into a self-pitying depression thinking the world hates me for about 6 months,” she revealed.

Today, Samantha said she’s trying to do better, sharing photos of herself as a contestant for Century Tuna Superbods 2020.

“The next pictures are me today, after I finally stopped making excuses, became significantly less of an a**hole, and learned that at the end of the day you have to be the one to pick yourself up and get better, do better; because no one can do it for you,” she said.

“I’m slowly and steadily working on being a healthier me every day, putting in the work that needs to be done and thinking of ways I can continue to improve and be better,” she added. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
