'Muni-Muni Stories' podcast, a love letter to OPM, to be released on Spotify
A podcast on Original Pilipino Music (OPM) is set to be released on Spotify this September.
Produced by the Filipinas Heritage Library and OPM Archive, "Muni-Muni Stories" serves as a "love letter to the heritage of Filipino music."
According to a press statement, the project is an offshoot of the curated playlists titled "Muni-Muni Muna" and "Muni-Muni Muli," which were launched at the start of quarantine.
"Muni-Muni Stories" is set to launch on September 25 with guest Celeste Legaspi, who will talk about her song "Saranggola ni Pepe" and her collaboration process with Nonoy Gallardo.
The discussion will focus on the song's message and the "political climate of the Philippines during that time, and the parallel dreams and aspirations the "matandang bingi" (old deaf person) has for the Philippines."
The first season of podcast features 12 episodes, each to be dropped monthly from September 2020 until March 2021.
Artists on the lineup include Joey Ayala, Raimund Marasigan, The Company, and Bayang Barrios.
Pia Magalona and her daughter Saab Magalona-Bacarro will also be in the podcast to share stories on the life and legacy of the late Filipino rapper Francis Magalona.
The OPM Archive collects stories and artifacts from the local music scene spanning different genres and periods which they made available online.
Meanwhile, the Filipinas Heritage is a digital research center that stoke interest in the visual, aural, and printed story of the Filipino. It was established in 1996. —Jannielyn Bigtas/MGP, GMA News
