Good Samaritan orders 35 burgers, asks delivery rider to share with the needy

A good Samaritan has ordered 35 hamburgers through a delivery app and asked the delivery rider to distribute the food to poor people on the streets.

According to Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras” Wednesday, Mark Berdan received a delivery request in the afternoon to pick up 35 burgers from a fast food chain.

After picking up the order, he was told by the customer, Abby, to distribute the food to street people instead of delivering it to them.

“Sinabi niya sa ’kin na, ‘kuya hindi mo na kailangan i-deliver ’yung order dito sa amin. Ipamigay mo na lang sa mga tao nagugutom sa kalsada’ na aking madadaanan,” Mark said.

“Hindi ako makapaniwala, sa dami ng burger na ’yun ipapamigay lang pala ’yun. Sabi ko, ‘joke lang po ba ito?’”

Mark said he continued to ask the customer if they were sure because he could be reported if he just gave the order away.

Abby, however, insisted, and even asked him to bring home five burgers for his family.

“Nag-tip pa siya sa ’kin ng 100,” Mark said.

Abby, meanwhile, said doing charity work and good deeds weren’t new to them.

“I’ve been doing this for a while na siguro mga 4 to 5 years na through feeding program. Lately nga nagkaroon ng pandemic so maraming nawalan ng trabaho at the same time mas madali kasi ’yung motor na makapagbigay ng food sa kalye so naisip ko na makatulong kay manong, at the same time mas marami siyang mabibigyan ng food,” Abby said.

Asked why they also gave food to Mark, Abby said: “Kawawa naman sila, parang inutusan ko sila eh, so bakit hindi? Para masaya sila at sa family nila.”

The customer also shared that in a week, they would ask five delivery riders to give away food to the needy.

Grateful for the work Abby does, Mark posted about the good deed online, which immediately went viral.

“Napakaganda talaga ng kalooban na may mga ganitong tao sa panahon na ito,” he said.

“Maliit lang po sa kanya ’yung naitulong niya pero sa mga natulungan niya, malaking bagay na po, lalo na po sa akin.”

For Abby, it was a way to “pay it forward ... Kahit maliit na bagay they can help out eh, wala naman sa amount.” – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
