READY PLAYER TWO

‘Ready Player One' is reportedly getting a sequel

Steven Spielberg’s 2018 sci-fi adventure film “Ready Player One” is reportedly getting a sequel.

According to Ernest Cline, who wrote the novel the film was based on, “Ready Player Two” movie is in its “early stages right now.”

The author and screenwriter shared the news in a recent interview with Inverse, saying the story picks up nine days after the end of “Ready Player One.”

“It introduces an upgrade to the Oasis interface technology right at the beginning," Cline was quoted as saying.

"Wade inherits this brain-computer interface that James Halliday has developed but not released. He had reservations about whether or not it was a good thing for the world, so he left it up to his heir to decide if they should roll out this new super-addictive upgrade to the Oasis,” he added.

For those who aren’t familiar, "Ready Player One" is set in a dystopia in 2045 where a young man named Wade Watts searches for an Easter egg in a virtual reality game developed by James Haliday.

The 2018 film adaptation was directed by Steven Spielberg, and it stars Olivia Cooke, Tye Sheridan, Ben Mendelson, Simon Pegg and more.

Cline released a second book “Ready Player Two” last November 2020.
