How Song Joong-ki reacted when reading the script for sci-fi blockbuster 'Space Sweepers'

Song Joong-ki is headlining South Korea's first space blockbuster, "Space Sweepers," and the film is set to blow everyone's minds.

And during a virtual press conference with Netflix on Tuesday, the "Descendants of the Sun" actor revealed that he had known about the film 10 years ago!

Back then, he was working with the director, Jo Sung-hee, for "A Werewolf Boy" (2012).

"I already heard about the plans. I thought it would really be interesting and amazing," he told reporters from the Philippines. "I immediately thought I would definitely do it."

He recalled that the initial storyline for "Space Sweepers" had been different compared to how it turned out to be.

But when he finally got the script, all he felt was excitement.

"I felt like I was a child again. When I first read the script, it reminded me of when I was a young kid," he said.

He said he had been reminded of an old favorite, "The Goonies" (1985), an American film that followed a group of kids who stumble onto evidence of pirate's treasure attracting the attention of a family of criminals.

"['The Goonies'] was such an amazing adventure and that was exactly how I felt. It was another adventure but it was set on outer space," he said.

"Space Sweepers" is a sci-fi film set in 2092. Song Joong-ki plays the role of genius space pilot Tae-ho, who along with his crew, finds a 7-year-old girl wanted by UTS Space Guards, and decide to demand ransom in exchange.

The film will premiere on February 5 on Netflix. —JCB, GMA News
