Finally getting a haircut? Donate your quarantine locks for a good cause

Since the pandemic started, many people just grew their hair while they remained indoors. If you’re one of those people who have decided to finally treat yourself to a haircut, you might want to consider donating your locks and help change someone else’s life.

Many hospitals and organizations have opened up hair donation drives to support cancer patients. If you wish to donate your hair, here are some organizations you can go to:

1. Makati Medical Center

Makati Medical Center has announced that they are looking for hair donors.

“Give your locks a purpose! Make a cancer patient smile by donating your hair at MakatiMed Cancer Center,” the hospital’s Twitter account shared on Wednesday.

To donate, make sure that the lock of hair is at least nine inches long. They accept all kinds of hair—straight, curly, wavy—as long as it’s not chemically treated.

Place the hair tied in a ponytail in a zip lock or resealable plastic bag with your name, contact number, and address before sending it to the hospital.

2. Hair For Hope

Hair For Hope provides free wigs from Heads by Volu-med Salon and European Hair Factory Inc. to partner hospitals such as Makati Medical Center, Asian Hospital, and many others.

To donate here, your locks must be at least 12 inches long and braided before cutting. You can also choose to get your haircut at Heads by Volu-Med Salon for Php400.

Once your braided hair is sealed in a plastic bag with your name, email address, and social media account, you can send it to Beth Holgado at Heads by Volu-Med Salon at G/F Unit 133 Shangri-La Hotel Makati, Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

You can ask for a certificate of donation by sending an email to salonheadsph@gmail.com.

3. Kythe-Ateneo

Kythe-Ateneo, the student arm of Kythe Foundation at Ateneo de Manila University, has also opened a hair donation drive, Hair2Share, and a wig donation program, Wigs2Give.

Hair2Share accepts hair donations while Wigs2Give distributes the medical wigs from the hair donations to people with health-related concerns for free.

For those who wish to donate, your hair must be at least 12 inches long, and clean and tied in a ponytail. Treated hair is accepted but discouraged since it costs more and takes a longer time to turn into medical wigs.

After sealing your hair in a plastic bag, send it over to their partner, Heads by Volu-Med Salon at G/F Unit 133 Shangri-La Hotel Makati, Ayala Avenue, Makati.

4. Strand Up For Cancer

Strand Up For Cancer, a project sponsored by the Manila Downtown YMCA Youth Club, aims to help financially disadvantaged women who suffer from long-term hair loss due to chemotherapy.

Now accepting donations, the organization requires donors to fill out a form first and message their Facebook page for coordination.
