'Avatar: The Last Airbender' franchise to be expanded by original creators
It looks like we'll be seeing more of the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" universe!
According to Deadline, Nickelodeon is launching Avatar Studios, "a division designed to create original content spanning animated series and movies based on the franchise’s world."
Original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will run the studio as co-chief creative officers, the report added.
They are reportedly going to start production on their first project later this year, an animated theatrical film.
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is a highly popular animated show that follows Aang on his journey to becoming the Avatar and bringing peace back to the four nations by defeating Fire Lord Ozai. It aired on Nickelodeon in 2005.
The follow-up series, "The Legend of Korra," aired in 2012 and ran for four seasons.
Netflix is currently producing a live action series for "Avatar: The Last Airbender," thrilling many as it announced that it hired DiMartino and Konietzko to produce.
However, the pair quit the production last year, saying the show will not be what they had "envisioned or intended to make." —JCB, GMA News
